On May 23, following the initiative of the Ministry of Finance, a government agreement on mutual customs assistance between Ukraine and the USA was signed. The signing ceremony was attended Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman, Minister of Finance Oleksandr Danylyuk and Head of the SFS Roman Nasirov representing Ukraine and US Ambassador Geoffrey Payett and Commissioner of US Customs and Border Protection Gil Kerlikowske representing the USA.

The Ministry of Finance, jointly with the Government of Ukraine, is pursuing the systemic reform of the customs service. One of the reform areas is the improvement of the customs contacts with other countries and their adjustment to the EU regulations. As one of the steps in this area, the Ministry of Finance initiated the above agreement with the USA on mutual customs assistance aimed to enhance cooperation between the two countries in fighting smuggling and customs rules violations.

Minister of Finance Oleksandr Danylyuk stressed that this agreement should contribute to bilateral cooperation between the customs authorities of Ukraine and the USA and mutual administrative assistance aimed to prevent illegal activities which affect the economic interests of the two countries.

“This reform is one more step in the systemic customs reform. We need systemic solutions to implement irreversible transformations of the customs system including, first of all, a crackdown on corruption”, the Minister of Finance said.
